Young Buck Explains Why Performing For Birdman At 13 Changed His Life

Published

He details how his family fell on hard times and went from middle-class to poverty.

A chance encounter would change the course of Young Buck‘s life. Buck began rapping at 12-years-old and then a couple of years later, he received the opportunity to perform in front of one of the leading forces in the rap game: Birdman. The Cash Money mogul took Buck under his wing and began developing him as an artist, and Buck recently spoke about what led up to him making the decision to turn to music.

“Changed my whole entire life into the music business. That’s where my journey started,” Buck told VladTV about performing for Birdman. “At the age of 13, man, I was in these streets in a real way as far as trying to find a way. My mom was blessed to graduate and come out of college and have a good job. My mom’s actually a social worker. She’s kinda one of them ladies who poured her life into school and into work and she got so many different degrees and stuff like that, my life started to change once my mother lost her job in the middle of a hospital merger.”

Young Buck also explained that his mother had taken in her sister’s children, and while disciplining one of the kids with a phone cord, the young child decided to call the authorities. No one expected what followed: Buck’s mother was charged with child abuse and because it was on her record, she was no longer able to work around children, which her job required. Soon, Buck’s family went from a middle-class lifestyle to struggling to make it day-to-day. Buck was determined to get his mother out of poverty and by the time he entered his teens, he was making moves on the streets.

“I had already grown adapted to getting money,” he said. Music was just the next step and the rest is history. Watch Young Buck speak about his childhood below.

OG Actor Melvin VanPeeples Passes Away!!!!!

Melvin Van Peebles  was an American actor, filmmaker, playwright, novelist, and composer. He worked as an active filmmaker into the 2000s. His feature film debut, The Story of a Three-Day Pass (1967), was based on his own French-language novel La Permission and was shot in France, as it was difficult for a black American director to get work at the time. The film won an award at the San Francisco International Film Festival which gained him the interest of Hollywood studios, leading to his American feature debut Watermelon Man, in 1970. Eschewing further overtures from Hollywood, he used the successes he had so far to bankroll his work as an independent filmmaker.

In 1971, he released his best-known work, creating and starring in the film Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song, considered one of the earliest and best-regarded examples of the blaxploitation genre. He followed this up with the musical, Don’t Play Us Cheap, based on his own stage play, and continued to make films, write novels and stage plays in English and in French through the next several decades; his final films include the French-language film Le Conte du ventre plein (2000) and the absurdist film Confessions of a Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha (2008). His son, filmmaker and actor Mario Van Peebles, appeared in several of his works and portrayed him in the 2003 biographical film Baadasssss!.

The movie is slated for release next year and production has shared the star-studded cast.

Another iconic video game is making its way to the silver screen and the cast has been revealed. In 1983, the world was taken by storm when Super Mario Bros. was released, and it has gone on to become one of the most celebrated and recognized franchises in the gaming industry. The arcade game has evolved by leaps and bounds over the decades, and later, it even received its own live-action/animated television series in 1989 and a movie in 1993.

A new animated film is set to arrive at the close of next year and Variety has shared the star-studded cast hired to portray some of the world’s favorite game-centered characters.

It seems that brothers Mario and Luigi will be portrayed by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, respectively, while Princess Peach will be donned by Anya Taylor-Joy. Jack Black will tackle the role of villain Bowser and Variety adds: “Rounding out the are Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad (who does a mean cover of Sia’s “Chandelier”), Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.”

Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” Chris Meledandri of Illumination said of the film.

“We are collaborating with Chris and his experienced team to not just create a character licensed film, but a new piece of entertainment which brings Super Mario Bros. to life on the screen, and allows everyone to enjoy whether or not they know about the game,” added Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. “The production so far is constructive and going very well, and both parties are learning a lot from each other. We humbly ask that fans wait just a little longer for the premiere, and we hope they look forward to seeing the unique characters from Super Mario Bros. on the big screen.”

It is reported that Super Mario Bros. will hit theaters on December 21, 2022, just in time for next year’s holiday season. Are you excited about this one?
