The Pandemic Has Been Very, Very Good for Vinyl Sales

Billboard reports nearly 2 million vinyl sales in the last week.

In a year that saw the live music industry decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic, vinyl sales have seen a major resurgence in America. On Tuesday, a Nielsen Music/MRC Data report corroborated recent projections. The report shows that in the last week, the United States saw a record-high week. In the week ending December 24, about 1.8 million vinyl records were purchased.

For the fourth time since 1991, vinyl album sales surpassed compact disc sales. Each of the four instances occurred in 2020. The record also includes numbers for independent record stores. In the same time frame, about 733,000 vinyl LPs were sold in the week ending with Christmas Eve.

The previous record sales high mark was set just a week before Christmas Eve (December 10-17), when 1.445 million vinyl records were sold. The new record is the biggest weekly sales mark since numbers were first counted in 1991.

The trend isn’t just happening in America: physical record sales in the United Kingdom are on pace to hit a three-decade high. The lack of concerts and live music appears to be inspiring fans to add to their record collections. After the physical music market declined by nearly half in March, the numbers began to soar when record stores reopened in June for the first time since lockdowns began. According to the RIAA, vinyl records contributed $232 million to the $376 million worth of physical music sales.

The best-selling physical album of the holiday season was McCartney III, by Beatles frontman Paul McCartney.

Wayans Bro’s Ousted Out Of Scary Movie!!!

Wayans Bro’s Ousted Out Of Scary Movie. In case you were wondering about what happened. We got the scoop.

Did the Scary Movie Franchise move Wayans out?

Wayans Bro’s ousted out of Scary Movie. One of funniest spoofs was the first three Scary Movies. I wonder what happened to the Wayans?

Marlon talked of how they were allegedly snatched out of the franchise. The first Scary movie came out in 2000. And, the sequels were born.

However, after the second movie things began to unravel. According to Marlon, the negotiations between his family and Dimension Films went sour.

During his interview with Kevin Hart on the “Comedy Gold Minds”, podcast Marlon opened up. Here is some of what Marlon said:

“We didn’t walk away from a franchise, they didn’t want to make our deal and they snatched it,” he explained. The first two films starred Marlon and his brother Shawn, and were directed by their eldest brother Keenan Wayans. “They was like, they just did, Weinstein did some really terrible, like rape and pillage villages type of business,” he elaborated. That’s just the way they did their business, so it wasn’t that we, we ever walked away from our franchise that we created, it was taken and us being the creatives that we are was like ‘alright, bet. F–k you, now watch what I create.’ “

In addition, Marlon confirmed what people said about Harvey Weinstein. As it relates, to his horrible business practices, as reported by Atlanta Black Star.

Also, Marlon admitted he learned very valuable lessons from that experience. As a matter of fact, a lawsuit may not be such a bad idea, according to Marlon.

Overall, the Weinstein’s could not stop Marlon and his family from having great success. On the other hand, Harvey’s career has gone down in flames.

Drake, Doja Cat, & Juice WRLD Dominate Spotify Wrapped 2021’s “Most Streamed” Lists – Halla Back Free Promotion

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! After making it through the whirlwind that was 2021, Spotify has finally begun sharing a compilation of the music and musicians who made the past 11 months at least a bit more bearable.

While many of us are still waiting to see our individual results in the app, the streaming platform has unveiled which songs and albums were most popular amongst users. Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” takes the cake for the U.S.’s most streamed song, followed by her other pop hit, “good 4 u.” Doja Cat and SZA’s TikTok anthem “Kiss Me More” came in third, followed by “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” featuring DaBaby.

As far as most streamed artists go, Drake cemented himself as #1, which isn’t a major surprise. Behind him is Taylor Swift, the late Juice WRLD, Kanye West, and Bad Bunny, almost all of whom shared super hot new projects already this year.

This year, Spotify also highlighted the throwback albums (released more than 20 years ago) that hit home with users. Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Nirvana’s Nevermind, Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory, Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction, and The Beatles’ self-titled record have all been in heavy rotation.

Check out more of this year’s biggest successes below, or find Spotify’s full round-up here.
