Rap & Wrestling: Hit Row is About to change the game!

Published

Former WWE superstar faction Hit Row (pictured from left to right: Briana “B-Fab” Brandy, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, AJ “Top Dolla” Francis, & Ashante Thee Adonis.

Since the ’80s, wrestling and music have been a tag team of legendary proportion with the creation of the “Rock & Wrestling” movement, Wrestlemania, and entrance themes. Every wrestling fan knows the rush of childlike joy you felt when you heard Hulk Hogan’s “Real American” or how you knew someone was getting a stunner when you heard The iconic Glass break/guitar riff combo of stone cold Steve Austin or crotch chopped whenever you heard that legendary “You think you can tell us what to do” of D-generation X (don’t lie, you started singing it didn’t you?). Without Iconic songs like these wrestling might not have survived this long; that marriage of music and wrestling has come full circle, possibly to the detriment of Multi-billion dollar Sports Entertainment company WWE.

For Decades the mainstream wrestling scene has done a terrible job of representing the black urban culture in wrestling; most “Rappers” are comedic acts or seen as jokes and saddled with terrible gimmicks. You need to look no further than wrestling legend Ron “R-Truth” Killings who despite being a monumental part of wrestling history, he is the FIRST EVER BLACK NWA WORLD CHAMPION, he is considered a joke on WWE television. Crazy thing is, he makes great music and has been a part of the music industry in one way or another since the mid 90’s. It’s been this way for many years, until the arrival of “Hit Row”! Swerve and company jumped onto the scene May 4th, 2021 and wrestling nor rap was ever the same.

At first glance you wouldn’t expect hard-hitting bars, dope songs, and crazy visuals from athletes of the squared circle; But this clique ain’t your normal faction. Created by Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, “Hit Row” is a wrestling homage to legendary 90’s west coast powerhouse “Death Row” with a modern twist on swag, lingo, and representation of the culture.

The 4 person group consists of three rappers (Swerve, B-Fab, & Top Dolla) and one producer (Ashante) and this isn’t just for TV or the WWE they make music in real life. Swerve has released many videos and songs via his “Swervecity” podcast his most recent video release “Haters/Dope” can be viewed here. The visual is a split between two songs Hater & dope respectively and it is a MUST WATCH with crazy bars from all the members of “Swerve city” isiah’s own rap group.

Then, have the big man of the group AJ “Top Dolla” Francis a former Washington redskin and also an amazing rapper; his track “90’s Baby” samples the aforementioned DX theme song to make a hard-hitting, wrestling bar laced slobber knocker of a Bar fest. Briana “B-Fab” Brandy is a sultry spitter who can give you something sexy or savage depending on what the occasion calls for. Her song “kryptonite” might be 5 years old but it can still rock out right now and still sounds fresh and new.

Recently they were released from their contracts at WWE with budget cuts cited as the reason, which in this writers opinion is the best thing to happen to them, wrestling, and Possibly all of music. If a company like AEW were to sign “Hit Row” their already popular social media presence, legitimacy in music, and overall star power could usher in the official “Rap & Wrestling” era.

With Hit Row in the company and them being allowed to continue making Amazing music and freestyles without the leash of a promotion that has to appease to shareholders we could see some of our favorite rappers getting in the ring and creating moments that are on par with Cindi Lauper feuding with captain Lou albano or when the No Limit Soliders took over WCW. The future is Uber bright for “Hit Row” and I for one can’t wait. They are the future of rap AND wrestling and we witnessing the rise of this new wave in real time.

HITTTTTTTROOOOOWWWWW HHHIIIIITTTTTTROOOOOWWWWWW IF YOU DON’T KNOW NOW YOU KNOW!

Delicious High-Protein Breakfast Recipes for Vegetarians

Published

on

Since meat, which is high in protein, is off the table for vegetarians, they must find other sources of the essential nutrient. Fortunately, nature has provided many other excellent sources of protein for those who choose not to consume meat. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to eat an all-vegetable dish – sometimes you’re just in the mood for a power meal minus the meat.

Try these high-protein breakfast recipes for vegetarians:

Green Chile and Cheese Frittata

What you need:

  • 10 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups low fat cottage cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup diced green chile peppers
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt

Stir together eggs, all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add cottage cheese, Cheddar cheese, chile peppers and melted butter to the bowl. Pour mixture into a lightly-greased 9×13-inch baking dish then bake in a pre-heated oven (400F) for 15 minutes. Lower heat to 325F then continue baking for 30 minutes more. Cool then slice into small squares.

Black Bean Breakfast Burrito

What you need:

  • 8 10-inch flour tortillas, heated
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups black beans
  • 2 cups salsa
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Cook black beans over medium-low heat in a saucepan until heated through. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet then scramble the eggs together to desired doneness. Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface then spoon black beans on it, followed by scrambled eggs, salsa and cheese. Roll into burritos. Do this for remaining ingredients.

Breakfast Veggie Omelette

What you need:

  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

On a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter then cook bell pepper and onion until tender, about 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and spinkle half the salt over them. Stir together eggs, milk, black pepper and remaining salt in a separate bowl. In the same skillet used to cook vegetables, melt the remaining butter over medium heat then pour egg mixture in the skillet. Cook until egg begins to settle at the bottom of the pan, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle cheese over omelette followed by the vegetable mixture. Using a spatula, gently fold half of the omelette over vegetables. Continue cooking to desired doneness.

Start your day strong and energized with these high-protein breakfast recipes you’ll love!
