Lana Del Rey, ASAP Rocky, And More

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best music released in the last week.

This week saw Lana Del Rey’s new album, as well as ASAP Rocky’s first musical offering since his legal drama in Sweden. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

Lana Del Rey — Norman F*cking Rockwell

The latest full-length effort from Lana Del Rey touches a lot of bases, which is to be expected from an artist of her caliber. The album features piano ballads, dreamy pop, a Sublime cover, and even full-blown psychedelic rock. The good news is that if you’re into all this, the wait for her next album might not be too long, since Del Rey is already working on it.

Post Malone — “Circles”

Post Malone finally confirmed the title and release date of his upcoming album (Hollywood’s Bleeding will be out in September), and he shared the latest single from the project, “Circles.” The track is a bit of a departure from his usual hip-hop-leaning sound, and could perhaps be considered a return to his roots, considering the old videos floating around of him playing folk and rock songs. “Circles” is nothing near hip-hop, and it will be fascinating to see if the rest of Malone’s new material also heads in this direction.

ASAP Rocky — “Babushka Boi”

ASAP Rocky recently spent more time than he planned on in Sweden, after he found himself on the wrong side of the law. Thankfully, that issue has been resolved, and he’s back to do what he does best: making music. His new single is “Babushka Boi,” and perhaps not coincidentally, the video show him and his cohorts as outlaws as they try to avoid the pig-like police force.

Charli XCX — “Warm” Feat. Haim

Charli XCX is hyping up her upcoming album Charli by sharing most of the collaborations on it as advance singles, and the latest one is her Haim team-up “Warm.” Haim has been venturing more into indie-rock territory lately, but this joint effort brings them back into a strictly pop zone. There’s more where this came from too, as the album also features appearances from Troye Sivan, Lizzo, Christine And The Queens, and Sky Ferreira.

Whitney — Forever Turned Around

The Chicago duo’s 2016 debut album Light Upon The Lake established the pair as indie-folk darlings, and after three years, their second album has finally arrived. No sophomore slump here: Instead, Whitney mature on their latest, fleshing out their sound for a more full-bodied experience.

Pusha T — “Coming Home” Feat. Lauryn Hill and “Sociopath” Feat. Kash Doll

Pusha T was busy last week, as he dropped a pair of new singles. One the Kanye West-produced and Kash Doll-featuring “Sociopath,” which originated from the famous Kanye Wyoming sessions, but never found its way onto one of the projects from that period for whatever reason. Then there’s “Coming Home,” which finds Pusha teaming up with a surprise collaborator in Lauryn Hill.

Cigarettes After Sex — “Heavenly”

Cigarettes After Sex started working on their upcoming second album the same week they dropped their debut record in 2017, and the first results of that ambition and eagerness are here. They’ve proved the wait has been worth it with “Heavenly,” a brooding but ethereal dream-pop single that teases greatness to come.

Big Sean — “Bezerk” Feat. ASAP Ferg

“Bezerk” is an appropriate title for Big Sean’s latest, because he and ASAP Ferg go nuts over the fast-paced beat. Like many hip-hop tracks before it, the pair discuss what it’s like to be successful, and the icy instrumental keeps it interesting. They didn’t wait long to give the track its live debut either, as they performed it at the VMAs just hours after releasing the song online.

Wale — “BGM”

Wale decided to celebrate Women’s Equality Day by releasing “BGM,” which means “black girl magic.” Over a smooth and club-ready beat, Wale honors influential women, whether that influence is of a personal or more broad nature — Taraji P. Henson gets a shout-out. He also shows that he understands at least some of the struggles his female peers face: “Sometimes it be really so hard for ya / White boy, paid more, same job as you.”

Vagabon — “Water Me Down”

Vagabon has made some changes to her upcoming album, the most notable of which being that it’s now called Vagabon. That’s fitting, because Cameroon-born artist deserves to be recognized for what is shaping up to be a strong record. She recently shared “Water Me Down,” a smooth and alluring bit of ambient house.

Some artists mentioned are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music.

Chris Brown: Supporting Kyrie Irving

Chris Brown supports Kyrie Irving’s decision to forego the COVID-19 vaccine. On Wednesday (Oct. 20), Brown expressed his approval of the Brooklyn Nets player’s choice not to get vaccinated — a decision that has resulted in him being barred from playing. Brown shared this statement on social media:

“Always In My Brother’s Corner” – Chris Brown

“THE REAL HERO!!! I stand with my brother,” the R&B singer wrote over a picture of the basketball player. “WHOEVER DONT LIKE IT… Go live your damn life.. ITS HIS CHOICE AND A DAMN GOOD ONE. ALWAYS IN MY BROTHERS CORNER.”

Irving Explains Himself

Brown hasn’t yet stated whether he’s been vaccinated against COVID-19, but Irving recently said during an Instagram Live that he is neither pro-nor anti-vaccine.

“The financial consequences, I know I do not want to even do that,” Irving explained. “But it is reality that in order to be in New York City, in order to be on a team, I have to be vaccinated. I chose to be unvaccinated, and that was my choice, and I would ask you all to just respect that choice.”

Irving Also Had This To Say Regarding His Decision

The Brooklyn Nets star added, “I am going to just continue to stay in shape, be ready to play, be ready to rock out with my teammates and just be part of this whole thing. This is not a political thing; this is not about the NBA, not about any organization. This is about my life and what I am choosing to do.”

Push Back From Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley slammed Irving’s refusal to get vaccinated before the Nets played on Tuesday night saying,

“First of all, you don’t get the vaccine for yourself, you get it for other people,” the NBA Hall of Famer said on TNT’s Inside the NBA. “I got vaccinated. I can’t wait to get the booster. You get vaccinated for your family first, you get vaccinated for your teammates second. That’s what bothers me about this whole thing.”

We’re back with another week of astrological predictions for ya. Keep reading to see your horoscope! Don’t forget to read your sun, moon and rising sign for the best results!

Astro Overview

Now that we are out of Mercury Retrograde but still in Libra, themes of wanting to finding harmony and balance both in previously unresolved communication issues and romantic relationships start to clear up with both parties wanting to find a middle ground. Driving this home the Sun goes into Scorpio on the 23rd which propels many to dive deep to attend to unresolved shadow work especially around our soul’s expression around sex, romance and financial/professional life goals. Accelerating this will be Venus’ continued transit in Sagittarius and Mars moving into Scorpio on October 30th as well. The universe is urging all of us to clear up emotional baggage for a powerful fresh start in 2022.

You do well with Scorpio energy as it matches your secret-low-key high sex drive and also your goal focused mentality. Leverage the double dose of Mars and the Sun in Scorpio this week by making grandiose plans for this 4th quarter and then quietly knocking them out. If you stay the course you’ll be clapping silently for yourself (and your bank account) by the year’s end.

Red Flag: The devil is in the details. Go over all plans and contracts with a fine tooth comb this week.

Sweet Spot: Your extra attractive this week. Singles update your party wear and head out. Couples update your lingerie and plan sensual nights in with your partner.

Mental clarity and sharp focus comes back to you powerfully this week as several signs move out of LIbra. If the retrograde left you looking backwards and feeling the need to clean up some loose ends — especially around financial and family goals —please do so by the end of October as your social calendar gets very full starting in November putting these much needed actives on the back burner delaying much needed change both within and without.

Red Flag: If you’re feeling energetically run down still, take some time to rest and delegate household chores to others.

Sweet Spot: Quiet introspection will take you quite far. Jump into manifestation journaling and walking meditations to maximize this vital process.

Your frequency is riding high this week giving you a bit of a glow. Everyone will notice which is awesome, however you may also attract some energy vampires. Listen to your powerful intuition and quickly remove yourself from situations or people whose vibrations simply don’t align with yours.

Red Flag: Some of those energy vamps could be your own loved ones. Still, detach, but with kindness.

Sweet Spot: Water is your BFF this week. If you can’t get to an ocean or a lake then take the time to take a few sacred baths that provide both spiritual and physical cleansing.

Report – Halla Back Free Promotion

Deshaun Watson has made it clear that he wants out of Houston and while he is currently battling numerous sexual assault lawsuits, it appears as though the league is going to allow him to play. For now, Watson is choosing not to play as he no longer wants anything to do with the Texans organization. There are a few teams that Watson would want to play for, and he is simply waiting for one of those teams to make a deal for him.

Over the past few weeks, there have been rumors that a deal with the Miami Dolphins was imminent, although nothing has happened just yet. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Watson should expect to be traded by the November 2nd deadline, as sources around the team have indicated that they are motivated to get the deal done.

Carmen Mandato/Getty Images

“Based on everything I have heard, the belief is that something will happen involving a trade and Deshaun Watson before November 2nd. There’s been plenty of false starts and plenty of rumors around this. But the expectation is something will be completed by November 2nd,” Rapoport said. “Here’s where it stands. Multiple teams are still interested in trading for Deshaun Watson. There’s a report going around the league about the Dolphins, they are not alone. Among the teams that have been discussed over the past several months, the Panthers, the Broncos, the Eagles, and some others.”

With that in mind, a trade should come either this week or early next week. There is no guarantee that it will happen although, with both sides motivated to make something happen, it should make for an interesting week. Stay tuned to HNHH as we will bring you all of the latest details.
