Universal announced Jordan Peele will release his newest work in July 2022.
On Monday, Deadline reported that Universal has announced the release date for a new Jordan Peele horror movie. There’s just a bit of a catch: there’s no details as to what the film’s about yet. The movie is set to drop July 22, 2022, the week after Warner Bros will release Fantastic Beasts 3.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker has pulled in over $500 million worldwide for Universal Pictures with the release of Us and Get Out. The latter earned him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Universal had already booked the film’s release date on the theatrical release calendar, now the date carries an even heavier cultural significance.
For the next year and a half, fans can wait with bated breath for the long-awaited Candyman. Peele wrote the film, which will be directed by Nia DaCosta. The film has been pushed to 2021 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Peele hopes to premiere the film with a full theatrical release. “The communal audience experience is crucial for Candyman,” Peele’s production company Monkeypaw said in a statement. “And right now, that is not available to everyone due to capacity restrictions and closed theaters. We are simply waiting for a time when all horror films can have that experience.”
DaCosta is also on board to replace directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck in the upcoming sequel to Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel.
